Work Place

Marriage and family therapists almost always work indoors in comfortable air temperatures. They normally spend a great deal of their workdays using the telephone. Their workdays often include face-to-face discussions, and they frequently use electronic mail. They have a lot of contact with others. Being able to work well in a group or team is very important in this work. Marriage and family therapists may experience stress in this job for a variety of reasons: time pressure; occasional significant decisions; and sometimes working with people who are in conflict. These therapists have a moderate amount of freedom to make decisions and to structure their work. Many marriage and family therapists work full time.
